Privacy Policy

Brushed ("Brushed," "we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using the Brushed app and related services.

Information We Collect

We collect only the information needed to operate Brushed.

1. Information you provide

If you choose to use certain features, we may collect:

  • Your profile information, such as your name or chosen emoji
  • Account information if you choose to link or restore your account with Sign in with Apple
  • Group or accountability information if you join or create a group

2. Information created through app use

When you use Brushed, we may store:

  • Brush session completion history
  • Streak and progress data
  • App settings and preferences
  • Lock schedule and selected-app configuration needed for Brushed features

3. Camera access

Brushed uses your camera during brush sessions to verify active brushing. Brushed does not store, upload, or sell your camera photos, video, or footage for this feature. Camera access is used only while verifying a brushing session inside the app.

3A. Face Data and On-Device Verification

During an active brushing session, Brushed may process face-related data from the live camera feed solely to verify that a user is actively brushing. This may include whether a face is present and transient face geometry or landmark information needed to estimate the mouth region during the session.

This face-related data is processed only on-device, in memory, during the active brushing session. Brushed does not store, upload, sell, or otherwise retain raw face data, facial landmarks, camera photos, video, or footage for brush-session verification after the session ends.

Brushed does not share face-related verification data with third parties. If a user chooses to link or restore an account, Brushed may sync account and progress data with backend service providers, but not raw face data or face-related verification data used for brush-session verification.

4. Notifications

If you allow notifications, Brushed may send reminders and status updates related to your brushing schedule and app experience.

5. Purchases and subscriptions

If you purchase a subscription, Apple processes the transaction. We may receive subscription status information from Apple so we can unlock paid features and manage your access.

How We Use Information

We use information to:

  • Operate and improve Brushed
  • Verify brush sessions
  • Track streaks and progress
  • Save your settings and preferences
  • Restore your data if you choose to link an account
  • Enable group features, if you use them
  • Provide subscriptions and premium access
  • Send notifications you choose to receive
  • Respond to support requests

Data Storage and Sync

Some information is stored locally on your device.

If you choose to link or restore your account, certain account and progress data may also be securely synced with our backend service providers so your data can be restored across devices and used for account-based features.

Face-related verification data used during brushing sessions is processed on-device in memory and is not synced to our backend service providers.

What We Do Not Do

Brushed does not:

  • Sell your personal information
  • Use third-party advertising trackers
  • Use your camera footage for advertising
  • Store or upload camera footage for brush-session verification

Sharing of Information

We may share information only in these limited situations:

  • With service providers that help us operate the app, such as account, database, hosting, subscription, and Apple platform services
  • If required by law, regulation, or legal process
  • To protect the rights, safety, or security of Brushed, our users, or others

We do not share raw face data, facial landmarks, or face-related verification data used for brush-session verification with third parties.

Your Choices

You can:

  • Deny camera access, although some verification features may not work
  • Turn notifications on or off in your device settings
  • Choose whether to link your account
  • Delete your account in the app, if you have created one

If you delete your account, we will delete or de-identify associated account data as required by applicable law, except where retention is required for legal, security, or billing reasons.

Data Retention

We keep data only as long as needed to provide Brushed, maintain your account and progress, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements.

Face-related verification data used for brush-session verification is retained only for the duration of the active brushing session in memory and is discarded when the session ends. Brushed does not retain raw face data, facial landmarks, or camera footage for brush-session verification after the session ends.

Children's Privacy

Brushed is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will update the effective date above and may provide additional notice where appropriate.
